According to Russian automotive media Autonews citing data from market research firm Avtostat, 34,959 new imported premium vehicles were brought into Russia in January–September 2026, representing a 38.5% year-on-year rise. German brands maintained dominance amid this growth, with BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz ranking as the top three importers.

Figures show BMW imported 10,321 units, ranking first with an 8.1% year-on-year increase. Audi reached 9,714 units, surging 356.5% year-on-year. Mercedes-Benz came third at 7,319 units, up 30.7% year-on-year.

Beyond the three major German brands, Infiniti’s imports rose 69.3% year-on-year, while Mini saw a 20.5% increase. By contrast, Porsche and Jeep recorded slight declines in import volume.

By vehicle model, the Audi Q5 emerged as Russia’s most popular imported premium model, with 4,452 units imported in the first three quarters, a staggering 655.9% year-on-year growth. The runners-up are as follows:
BMW X3: 3,057 units, +19.8% YoY
Audi Q3: 2,455 units, +931.5% YoY

Other popular models include:
Mercedes-Benz G-Class: 1,506 units
Mercedes-Benz GLE: 1,362 units, +117.6% YoY
BMW 5 Series: 1,034 units, +72% YoY
Audi A5: 959 units, +888.7% YoY

Overall consumption appetite for premium vehicles in Russia is also recovering. In the first three quarters of 2026, 552 brand-new luxury cars were sold in Russia, an 8% year-on-year increase. That said, monthly sales dropped in September, falling 17.5% year-on-year. On the luxury brand sales leaderboard, Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Lamborghini claimed the top three positions.

## Closing Remarks

The data indicates that Russia’s premium vehicle market still favors German SUVs and mid-to-large luxury models. Products such as the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLE demonstrate strong demand resilience. While these statistics cover new car imports, they send a clear market signal: Russian consumers’ acceptance of premium SUVs and luxury brands has not weakened. If compliance, distribution channels and payment terms can be properly arranged in the future, these vehicle models will remain key areas worthy of attention.
